Bottom of the photo has an illustration of a painters pallet and brushes. Four paint brushes are through the circle. "Extra Finish" is printed on the pallet.

Assisted in establishing a newspaper at Waterloo. Served as tollgate keeper at county turnpike road at Papstown. Wife died 1870. Children: Frances, John C,
and Mahlon G., 1 daughter, Non Res.

EXHIBIT MATERIAL - The Thomas printers, father and son, travelled easily between Belleville and St. Louis. Jacob, a Pennsylvanian by birth, came to Belleville in 1843. His son, John (1842-1903) apprenticed at the Advocate Newspaper at the age of 8. He went on to be a correspondent for the St. Louis Globe Democrat and the local editor of the Advocate at Belleville.
