Stripping shovel named "Big Paul". Named after Paul Duensing Duensing worked for Peabody Coal: Perr Larry Gallo, the shovel was named after his grandfather, Paul Duensing, who was the Chief Erector of "Big Paul". His brother, Albert Duensing and Jim Paglioi were the only operators of the giant shovel which was the largest in the world. It began operation at Freeburg, IL River King Mine in the early 960s through 1992. It had a 72 cubic yard dipper. Duensing began working for Peabody at age 8. and spent his entire adult career with Peabody as an engineer. He retired at age 65 but returned to supervise the erectioin of a large shovel in Australia. |
