Black on white printed Certificate of Deposit # 16471 for $600.00. A Mary P. Chesley deposit payable to herself after one year. Certificate was signed by President, Sebastian Fietsam and Cashier, E. D. Usner. REF: Alvin Nebelsick reports in his History of Belleville published 1955, p 193-4: People's Bank of Belleville organized in 1869 in the Old Belleville House. Bank closed 4/22/1878 mostly due to the failure of the Belleville Nail Mill. Original document dates from Historic Preservation Commission of the City of Belleville's 1976 Bi-Centennial Photo Project. Original has been restored and scanned.
