Notes |
The building was the central heating plant of Jacob Brosius. Steam ducts ran from the plant to buildings in Belleville, including the court house. The building was on the Brosius estate. Address of the building was 729 East Main Street. The site was razed to become a National Food Center. (Source, Belleville News Democrat , June 28 1957), Doris (Mrs. Howard) Seibert recalled living in the trailer park after World War II. [What had been the Brosius ponds had been drained and the trailer part occupied the site.) Housing was tight in part due to the population at Scott Field. Trailer homes proved one solution.
