Description |
Box made entirely of pressboard in natural wood color. White Banding. Stamps: Very little evidence of the tax and union made stamps. Lid/Top: Black outline stamp in the center of the lid says: Henkemeyer's . Habana spelled out below and Fabrica de Tobacos above Henkemeyer's. White oval decal placed at left side of top is partially intact. Decal printed in black reads: Flor De Toabcos de M. Henkemeyer's Belleville, Ill. Additional text on the lid are only partially intact. The oval decal continues on the left side of the box. It reads: "A la Belleville rue de Public Square N 24". The last line reads: "Peter Mohr" in cursive. The lower left side of the box also has a red decal and with black letters reads: "Manufactured only by Peter Mohr Cigar Company". The union made label also appears. Right side of box is stamped in black "P. Mohr". Inside lid is totally papered in white and printed in black. There are 6 medallions: 3 left and 3 right. They are all different but 4 of them are covered by black and red decals. One decal reads: "M. Henkemeyer's Registered in United States Patent Office". Nov. 19, 1907 No. 66,221". Union made label is also on decal. Second decal reads: Manufactured only by Peter Mohr Cigar Company. Union made label also on decal. The medallions that are legible indicate a Napoleon Medal; and a medal commemorating the Exposition de Viena 1873 Front reads in black: Henkemeyer's 10 cents (symbol) Straight Bottom of box has the following inscription: Factory No. 215 8 Dist. Ill. 50 Factory Stamp notice for the State of Illinois is completely legible. Tax Paid Stamp reads: Cigars to retail at no less than 8 cents each and not more than 15 cents each and are so tax paid. |
